As we roll into the beginning of September, the Coho fishing has finally begun to heat up. Within the last few days, the Gastineau Channel area has begun to light up with Cohos. The Coho's are pushing into the Channel with the high tides, and stacking up in holes as low tide approaches. Try fishing a couple hours before low tide, through low, and a few hours of the incoming tide in pockets along the Gastineau Channel. Other places to try your hand at catching a chrome Coho would be Cowee Creek, Montana Creek, Auke Creek, and Point Louisa. Try big, flashy flies, such as Dolly Llama- pink/white, chartreuse/white, chartreuse/black, tutti fruitti, Squidro- black/chartreuse, 12th man, pink/orange, Polar Starlite Leech- chartreuse/white, kandy kane, chartreuse/black, and Clouser Minnow #2- chartreuse/white, pink/white, purple/pink.

With minimal Chum and Pink salmon spawns happening, the Dolly Varden fishing has slowed down a whole bunch. Try drifting flesh and egg patterns around log jams, sticks, and through deep holes in creeks around town. Often times the Dollies can be enticed out with a nice Twofer- flesh, Deep Six- flesh, L.E. Egg Sucking Leech- pearl/white as well as 10mm beads in peach, washed pink, and orange colors. Places like Montana Creek, Cowee Creek, Auke Creek and Salmon Creek are good places to continue the search for the Dolly Varden fishing... we do expect it to continue to taper off as we move into September.

Happy Fishing!
